216mhz telemetry to be rendered useless in UK

The 216 frequency often used by UK falconers in telemetry has been sold to a digital radio and TV broadcaster. The news means that for some UK falconers the 216 telemetry receiver will become useless. When the same thing happened in Holland two years ago falconers found that there receivers picked up large amounts of interference making tracking all but impossible.

The 216 frequency was never legally to be used in the UK. But over many years many falconers have purchased sets that could in a very short time become useless. The news comes as the digital revolution needs more and more air space. The legal 173, will not be affected and is still recognised for use within tracking. No one yet knows if the broadcaster will be regional or nationwide, either way falconers in certain regions could well be affected. I’ll pass on more information as I get it. For the mean time if you need to buy a new receiver, think twice before choosing your frequency.

Who is behind Falconry World?

Stephen Lea

My name is Stephen Lea and I'm a falconer based in the UK.

I've been flying for over fifteen years and mainly fly longwings. As a falconer I know how important it is to hear about other peoples experiences. Shared information on the sport is invaluable. As well as being extremely interesting it can open up new perspectives, ignite ideas and save valuable time. I hope from reading these pages and sharing your own practices, you will do just that.
