Buffalo Special 6 shirt (Jacket)

Buffalo Special 6 shirt (Jacket)

Buffalo Special 6 Shirt is a jacket not a shirt. I was first put on to the Buffalo Special 6 by the head keeper on a northern England grouse moor whilst hunting. The weather there is extreme due to height and how exposed the moorland is. He still wears his every day, even in freezing driving snow with only a technical Northface shirt underneath. After some research on the web, I found that Buffalo Special 6 jackets are used by the military all over the world and the trouble is getting hold of one as the manufacture (based in Sheffield England) can’t keep up with orders and still manufactures in England. I finally bought mine online and wear it every day through winter.

The Buffalo Special 6 jacket is worn with either nothing on underneath or with a technical base layer to wick away any sweat. The jacket has two long zips on either side so if your falcon or hawk needs some hot pursuit this is ideal as you can keep cool whilst walking and then zip up whilst standing still.

I’ve used my Buffalo Special 6 jacket for hunting and for camera work; standing still for 90 minuets after lugging heavy camera equipment around is a test for any jacket, but it works fine keeping me dry and warm. It’s ideal for falconry as it comes in NATO green has extra length so you can sit down and not get a wet bum. It has two large side pockets and a kangaroo pouch type pocket all fully zipped.

The Buffalo Special 6 jacket is made from Pertex 6 outer with ‘AquaTherm’ pile lining, on the inside and is an overhead garment otherwise known as a smock. Developed alongside outdoor professionals, this jacket is ideal for falconry and gamekeepers, shooters, cross country walkers, climbing and technical climbing and mountain bikers.

Pertex 6 is more windproof and more resistant to abrasion, than gortex and the longer length provides a lower run off level for rain. The Special 6 Shirt is apparently the choice for Mountain Rescue Teams, the Armed Forces, Fire Service Emergency rescue Teams, Police Surveillance and even under water search teams. It works great, its brilliant against the wind and is very comfortable to wear and its very light. It’s also completely machine washable, dries real quick and looks like new when washed. All in all one of the best jackets I’ve ever bought.
